2021 Wyoming Range 100: Runner update #4

Runners,

We’ll start with great news: The Forest Service wants us to use the original course now that the Soda Lake fire is 100% contained. We can all pretend the past eight days didn’t really happen…

Now for some important pre-race reminders. Buckle up for along email!

The “final-final” course GPX is coming on August 16th

We will publish the “final-final” course GPX file to our website by Monday, August 16th at 8:00pm MT. The version on our website now is 99.5% accurate, but we might include a small change if we find something burly — a big slide, for example — during our trail work over the next two weeks.

We’ll publish bibs to UltraSignup on August 16th

We will publish bib numbers on UltraSignup by Monday, August 16th at 8:00pm MT. You’ll need your bib number to write on your drop bags.

The race is cupless

Please bring your own cup for fluids at the aid stations. We will not have single-use cups!

The race is not “drop-friendly”

Our goal has always been a 100% finishing rate for this race. Knowing, however, that reality sometimes disagrees from our goals, we wanted to re-emphasize that this race is not “drop-friendly.” If you must drop, we encourage you to do so at Menace Falls, McDougal Gap, Hunting Camp or Phosphate. Even at these aid stations, you could be waiting a long time for a ride to the finish — unless a friendly crew takes pity on you.

We will not provide food and water at the start

Come ready to run! Your stomach and water bottles should be topped off because we will not have food and water at the start. It’s in the middle of nowhere.

Your RDs will be in the field, starting tomorrow at 5:00pm MT — with limited service

Colin and I will be in the field over the next two weeks, preparing the course. We will have very limited service. If you need to reach us, drop us an email and we’ll likely respond in 1-3 days.

Trail work is a “go” for Saturday, August 14th

Now that the fire is behind us, our trail work day for Saturday, August 14th is back on track! (Apologies for the confusion on the pre-race Zoom call.) The exact location is TBD but will most likely be from the McDougal Gap aid station. We’ll confirm and share the specifics soon.

Send us an email if you’re interested in joining us for an eight-hour project. It won’t be too grueling.

Let’s go!

We are so pumped.

-Denis & Colin
